A Meditation on the Root-source
Between myself and the world there is not hair’s breadth of real separation. The world, this universe of myriad beings including all of humanity is a whole, and I am a part. This body-mind (‘me’) is the world even as it is in the world. The world exists in me even as I exist in the world.
As the world is a creative dynamism of being-time, so too is this body-mind. This world and this self are of one root. The root-source of my existence is the very root-source of the world itself. The objective world appears concurrently with subjective consciousness. What precedes this ephemeral bifurcation is the root-source.
What is the nature of that root?
It is generative. It produces all things yet is itself no particular thing, not even the totality of particular things, since the totality is also a particular ‘thing’- an objectification.
Neither though is the root-source separate from any thing (the particularity of things is not a substantial, or abstract particularity but an actual particularity. This means that any particular thing that is identified is dependently arisen from causes and conditions which include everything else)
If it can be thought of as operating in terms of intelligent willing, it operates with free will and total understanding ( ultimately, everything is as it should be, as it needs to be; things which appear in the flow of phenomena do not obstruct the appearance of anything else, but rather appear in patterns of profound interrelationship and mutual conditioning)
it condenses will and understanding into physical forms, yet in doing so, limits them,
it is thereby a self-limiting creative and understanding will, permeating it’s creation, revealing itself through ordinary consciousness as self-and-world, but in so doing, limiting it’s appearances.
In manifesting as limited selves and the world, it lies at the root of ‘ego’ and dualistic experience.
The ego and world are it’s creative self-expressions, therefore all that exists as ego and world is previously contained within it as unexpressed.
Ego, the appearance that is the world, and expression are all related to consciousness, therefore, it is through consciousness that it operates. What we call consciousness is intimate to its nature. It is a supra-consciousness.
In being change and time, it is in itself beyond space and time.
