‘A magnificent beast slumbers in the dark. It’s will fills out the ten directions as the universe. The tangle of it’s innumerable limbs suit it’s will. It’s limbs are as strangers to each other, in constant clash and confusion. In all division it lives undivided. All that wakes, divides, and blinks are it’s dreaming. It knows itself as innumerable thoughts. Through innumerable thoughts, it clouds itself. Ever refreshed in ceaseless repetition, ever moving, but always towards return..
Matchless, mirrorless,
selfless, it is the only self,
formless, it is all apparition,
deathless, it is ever living,
enduring as constant dying’

Humanity has forgotten that we are part of this totality which is God, seeing ourselves as independent beings, so as a result, it becomes crucial on the path of the Sufi is to lose the sense of self-consciousness to essentially remember and to know that God, the individual and the universe are all ultimately one. Over time, three methods have developed in order to pursue this goal, which can be respectively called heart knowledge, visionary knowledge and mental knowledge.
