If I may, I do not think it was a matter purely of hubris on the part of Jews in the Hellenic world that earned them distrust and enmity, nor their insular attitude. I think it became quite clear that the morality of Jews was simply incompatible with the dominant moral condition.
Jews in Alexandria quickly learned how to lend money to their advantage alone, draining the wealth from the local population. This created an unstable situation in the city, one where Christian violence and murder gangs found fertile ground, for example.
This is not meant to downplay the lies that later became enshrined as biblical statements of belief, since the damage done by this pathological level of narcissism has played a long and tragic role in history, one that is definitely ongoing, nor is it meant to excuse the master race theology which currently is at the root of ongoing genocide, yet when it boils down to a society and it's ability to successfully meet challenges, I think the morality of that society plays a vital role.
Why didn't the non-Jews just leave them to their petty narcissistic delusions? Notwithstanding that it is near impossible to escape one's time in history, I assume there must have been some material benefit other than bragging rights.
Well, if there were a group of people living around you who were constantly sneering at you on the one hand, but also propagandising against you, and even claiming your own gods had declared their version to be superior, then I imagine the tensions would be so great that any little conflict could quickly be blown out of proportion and escalate
Maybe Mad Mikey Mileikovsky is out there,one on his own and is unrepresentative of all other Jewish people,in fact he must be because I grew up in a world where Jewish people were DAVID KOSSOFF and LIONEL BLAIR and BERNIE WINTERS. AAbsolute sweethearts. Even JOAN RIVERS was funny and YEHUDI MENUHIN knew his way round a violin. They won our hearts and made a lot of dosh but honestly come by. They earned their special status. But it's incredibly annoying to be constantly told that you are a pile of crap while that other social-ethnic group are the bees knees. And I am going to relate this to my own life experience. I'm 72. My sole income is UK State Pension. Which it's increasingly made clear is begrudged me. I worked and paid tax. Now I'm not a person. I'm an inactive economic unit. I'm constantly being told,by voices on the radio that I should be grateful to see my home area turn brown skinned because these people work hard and pay tax. If it wasnt for the tax they pay,huge amounts of it our society
would collapse and oldies like me should be grateful they're here to wipe my bum for me. None of these commentators seem to think I ever paid tax. I know they're not talking about ME as an individual but back in the day being a "tax payer" was so ordinary and normal it wasnt even worth commenting on. It certainly wasn't a basis for heroic status. It's just SO ANNOYING. And if they are all dutifully doing the anti-social hours low paid low status jobs we are too fat and lazy to do then they are earning under the tax threshold so apart from NI and vAt they are not paying extortionate amounts of tax from the goodness of their hearts. Maybe it was a bit like that for the Alexandrians. The thing is it can be a good strategy to so wind up your neighbour that he/she attacks you then you can claim VICTIM STATUS. And RE-ACT with malevolent and malicious mastery of munitions.
