In the last post – “the allegory of the cave revisited” ( a play off Plato’s famous allegory) I made reference to ‘cunning charlatans’ who spoke of a ‘world beyond the cave’. In writing this, I wasn’t implying that the world as we usually take it to be is the entirety of reality; on the contrary – the world of everyday hum-drum experience is laced with perceptions like those of the people in the trance before the fire.
